All application packets must include:
(1) A completed application form
(2) An official transcript of highest education level completed
(3) Letter or Recommendation (at least one)
(4) Letter of acceptance from a prospective college, university, graduate program, vocational school, or technical school (unless already enrolled in one of the above).
(5) A complete essay
(6) A current photograph (Passport size and quality). If selected an 8x10 shall be submitted.
APPLICANTS MUST PROVIDE ALL THE ABOVE INFORMATION IN ORDER FOR YOUR APPLICATION TO BE PROCESSED
GENERAL INFORMATION AND INSTRUCTIONS
1. Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
a. Work for or be a family member of an employee of the Department of Transportation within the Northeast Region.
b. Be a member or a family member of a member of the NBCFAE, Northeast Region.
c. Be referred by a member of NBCFAE, Northeast Region.
2. Applicants must have a grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher on a 4-point scale. Applicants must be one of the following: freshman, sophomore, or junior in college, senior in college pursuing a master’s degree, first year graduate student, or a high school senior expecting to graduate no later than
June 2011.
3. Applicants must attach a letter of recommendation from a High School or College Counselor/Advisor/Teacher, Minister, Civic Leader, or professional person, who can attest to your academic achievements, community service, or character. Note: Include the job title of the person writing the letter.
4. Applicants must submit an official sealed transcript, of highest education level completed.
Graduating High School Senior, please have your Guidance Counselor/Scholarship Coordinator include a copy of your current report card and current GPA with the sealed copy of your transcript. Transcripts may be sent separately. Transcript arriving unsealed will not be accepted. Grade reports will not be accepted.
5. Applicants must attach a typed, double-spaced, 300 word essay; plus or minus twenty-five words.
Essay Question:
How will you foster racial equality in the field in which you have chosen to study?
6. Applications MUST be postmarked by April 27, 2012 and received no later than May 4, 2012. Late packages will NOT be accepted.
7. It is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure the application is complete and on time. Incomplete packages will not be considered.
8. If you are awarded a scholarship, an 8 X 10 photograph (professional attire) must be submitted to this office no later than May 9, 2012 or you will not receive your scholarship.
9. Applicants who are NBCFAE members or their dependents must indicate the Chapter and Region affiliation plus the name and the relationship of the NBCFAE member.
10. All applications MUST include one self-addressed stamped envelope (#10 or larger).
