Navy as an Air Traffic Control Specialist; my duty stations included: The USS Peleliu / LHA-5 (San Diego, Ca.), Naval Air Station Lemoore (Lemoore, CA), and Naval Air Technical Training Center Pensacola (Pensacola, FL).
I graduated from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University with a Bachelor’s of Science in Professional Aeronautics and received a Master’s of Business Administration (MBA) in Applied Aviation Management from Daniel Webster College.
I have two beautiful children Shelton and Emani. I have discovered that the key to success is doing the things we have to do, when they ought to be done, and the way they ought to be done, whether we like it or not. I thank God everyday for inspiring me to actually love what I do, so therefore, I am truly blessed.

When I was a child, living in Puerto Rico, a close friend of the family gave me a tour of San Juan International. Since that day, I grew a love for air traffic control that increased over time.
My beautiful wife (Kim) and I have 3 wonderful kids: Requan (15) Trinity (10) and Shane (8).
Tonetta Matthews-Smith
I returned to the workforce as a contractor for WCG in 2007. That opened the door of opportunity as I was introduced to the FAA, and within 6 months accepted a Secretarial position with Airports. I have gained much respect for this great organization and the men and women within. My first experience with the National Black Coalition was a trip to the 34th National Training Conference in Indianapolis, Indiana. I immediately became a member because of the unity of those attending. I have learned that if you are willing to set goals, there are others in your path to help you achieve them. It is imperative that you be a part of something moving forward. However, work is not new to me. Prior to my current position, I spent most of my years in the corporate world as a Human Resources & Customer Service Representative.
As a wife and the mother of 4 wonderful children, and the grandmother of three: I know it is never too late to join a team making a difference, striving to be a positive influence in others.

I live by the motto that all dreams are achievable through hard work and dedication because fear and faith can’t occupy the same space. It is also my belief that by having God everything is possible. I am truly blessed to be part of an organization devoted to improving lives and making a difference.
